LANSING - The longest serving Mayor of Kalamazoo, Bobby Hopewell, announced his endorsement of Mayor Schor for reelection in Lansing. Bobby Hopewell served as Mayor for Kalamazoo from 2007 to 2019, and currently works in Lansing’s Old Town as CEO of a medical services company.
Mayor Schor and Mayor Hopewell have worked closely together over the years to focus on many important issues facing Kalamazoo, Lansing, and other cities including equitable city support systems, infrastructure, and social services to develop new beneficial initiatives.
“I have known Mayor Schor a long time, and he is one of the hardest working public servants in Michigan,” Hopewell said. “Andy represented cities like Lansing and Kalamazoo through the Michigan Municipal League, supported urban communities across our state in the Michigan House of Representatives, and is now growing our great Capital City. Through all of the years I've worked with Mayor Schor, he has always put the people of Lansing first. So many communities continue to face ongoing challenges, and Andy works with stakeholders to find conscious and works to develop the best solution."
“I am truly grateful to have served alongside former Mayor Hopewell in my career and am honored by his endorsement,” said Mayor Schor. “Bobby is a leader amongst leaders and knows what it takes to lead a city - he transformed the city of Kalamazoo during his time as Mayor. His continued commitment to bettering the lives of the people of Kalamazoo is inspiring. And, as Bobby is a taxpayer and worker here in Lansing, I look forward to working with him to further grow Lansing.”
Bobby Hopewell is one of many former and current Mayors throughout the state to endorse Mayor Schor for reelection. Mayor Schor has a growing list of endorsers. He is joined by Senator Gary Peters, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, nearly a dozen labor unions, small business owner Gregory Eaton, former Mayor Tony Benavides, and many other neighborhood leaders, Lansing and regional elected officials, small business owners, and others. Schor also recently finished the release of his vision for Lansing’s future, which will be updated throughout the campaign trail.
