Schor Announces Re-Election Campaign for Mayor
LANSING, Mich. - Mayor Andy Schor today announced his campaign for re-election as Lansing Mayor, outlining his accomplishments and his vision for the city's continued growth and prosperity. With a focus on growth - including job creation, economic development, housing, and enhanced city services - Schor aims to build on the progress made during his first two terms and secure an even brighter future for all Lansing residents. He made the announcement surrounded by friends, family, and supporters at Gregory’s Soul Food in north Lansing.
“Lansing is a growing, vibrant city with billions of dollars in job creation, housing, incredible amenities, support services, and economic development happening in every corner of this city. I’m proud of the work we have done but know there is still more to do and that’s why I am proud to announce my re-election campaign for Mayor,” Schor stated. “After 7 years, I still believe that Lansing’s Time is Now and I also believe that the best is yet to come. I look forward to getting out on the campaign trail and talking to residents and asking for their vote for four more years leading our community into the future.”
Under Schor’s leadership, Lansing is seeing billions in economic development and growth. This growth means more good paying jobs for residents, more housing options for all incomes, and more services and amenities necessary for a thriving community. Crime in all major categories, is also going down with an increased focus on police funding, and city investments in intervention and prevention initiatives.
Some of the major development projects that are currently underway include:
New City Hall: Construction is about to start on a modern home to city government with a one-stop customer service center for residents.
Current City Hall: Schor’s plan to sell the current, outdated City Hall and transform the mid-century modern structure into a hotel and dining complex is underway.
Ovation Center for Music & Arts: The new Ovation Center is taking shape on South Washington Square further transforming nights and weekends in downtown Lansing.
Public Safety & District Court Complex: Schor’s plan for a state-of-the-art facility that will be home to the Lansing Police Department, Fire Department Administration, District Court, and a new fire training complex is under construction.
New & Updated Fire Stations: Two new Fire Stations, along with remodeling other fire stations across the city is underway.
New Vision Lansing: This massive $317 million investment will include 575 new units of housing, bringing hundreds of new residents to Downtown and Old Town.
Capital Area Transit Authority (CATA) Headquarters: Our public transportation system is buying and renovating a building downtown and will move their administrative offices and public service center there, near the new City Hall.
The Macotta Club: Schor helped secure more than $1 million in funding for this restaurant and food incubator hall located downtown.
Verlinden Plant Site: A $19 million clean-up of the former auto factory site on the westside will begin soon and ready the land for future development.
Walter French Development: This historic former school in the heart of our city is being redeveloped into housing by the Capital Area Housing Partnership.
W. Saginaw Developments: Schor has prioritized the area along W. Saginaw for future development. Spearheaded by the Moneyball headquarters, this area has developers ready to take the old Parks Furniture and other buildings into a vibrant region with housing and commercial development.
Pleasant Grove & Holmes: The site of the former Pleasant Grove School is another high priority for future development into housing and other needed amenities.
Neogen: Neogen is in the midst of a $208 million investment that includes new buildings,R&D facilities, and high-tech job creation of an additional new 115 positions in Lansing.
LG Battery Plant: This massive project will see the continued creation of more than 1,500 good jobs.
Infrastructure: Thanks to funding from the federal government, we will be installing up to 50 EV charging stations in the area, plant hundreds of trees to increase our canopy cover, and completely rebuild a bridge over the Red Cedar River near REO Town. In addition, Schor is spending millions from city funds to repair more streets and sidewalks than ever.
Currently serving in his second term as Mayor, Schor previously served as both a State Representative and Ingham County Commissioner representing Lansing. He and his wife Erin are proud to call Lansing home and chose to raise their family here. Both of their children attended the Lansing School District, graduating from Everett High School.
“It is an honor to serve as Lansing’s mayor and go to work every day for the residents of our community,” Schor concluded. “We have faced challenges head-on and come a long way in the last few years, but the work is not done and I am ready to keep pushing forward for Lansing’s future.”
