LANSING’S TIME IS NOW!
Accomplishments and Plans for Lansing’s Future
Andy Schor believes that Lansing’s Time is Now. He is focused on Lansing’s future growth, with billions of dollars in investments taking place in every corner of the city right now. Lansing residents need access to good jobs, safe housing options, and the amenities people need and want in a vibrant city.
The Schor Administration over the past few years have been hard at work, delivering on these promises.
During his time as Mayor, crime has reduced in Lansing. This is due to the work of the Lansing Police Department, and the partnerships that have been forged with prevention programs and community organizations. The strategy of prevention, intervention, and justice, in addition to the creation of a social worker team collaborative relationships with the faith community, have helped reduce gun violence and prevent retaliations. Additionally, enforcement and trust in the community have led to high closure rates when crimes do occur. And efforts like Operation Slowdown are keeping residents and drivers safe on the streets. There will always be more work to do to make neighborhoods safer, but the work being done has displayed that great progress is being made. And significant amenities have been provided to neighbors in parks and recreation, in addition to art and vibrancy for all areas of the city.
Since taking office, Schor has worked with partners to increase the housing availability for all incomes and housing types. Affordable, workforce, attainable, and market rate housing has been created. Single-family homes have been rehabilitated, created, and restored. Schor’s administration has helped transform the city skyline with new housing units across Lansing. Capitol Park, The Venue, City View, and many other new multi-housing have been created. The city will continue to implement rehabilitation programs for current housing stock and produce more affordable housing for individuals living in Lansing and those who want to move here.
In neighborhoods and throughout the city, assistance has been provided for those in need. Street outreach programs to get people into emergency shelters have been created and expanded. And options such as transitional housing, rapid rehousing, permanent supportive housing, and housing vouchers have helped to alleviate the need. And millions have been invested in programs to help those that are at-risk.
