Mayor Schor Releases Regionalism and City Partnerships Rollout for Lansing

LANSING – Today, Mayor Andy Schor released his final section of his vision for the City of Lansing, Regionalism and City Partnerships.

Mayor Schor has developed and strengthened relationships with the Lansing School District, higher education, the State of Michigan, local governments, and others towards the betterment of the Greater Lansing Region. Notably, he created the first liaison between the city and LSD, joined the Lansing Promise Board (the first Lansing Mayor to do so), established a relationship with the Community Foundation of Greater Lansing, and engaged with dozens of other partners. This work will help our community emerge from the pandemic stronger than ever.

“Communities don’t end at their borders and in their silos. Regionalism is necessary for productive and efficient government and to ensure Lansing can be the best possible city. Working with our schools for the benefit of our youth, working with nonprofits to improve our city, working with our neighbors for our region, and so many other collaborative efforts are so important.  I am proud of our work, and look forward to further strengthening relationships!” Andy Schor said.

“Our district’s many partnerships with Mayor Schor cemented the essential relationship between the Lansing School District and Lansing,“ Yvonne Caamal Canul said, former Superintendent of the Lansing School District. “Mayor Schor understands that a healthy school district is foundational to the city’s economic development.  His integrity, practicality, and dedication to Lansing are key characteristics needed of a partner who is in it for the right reasons.”

In addition to creating official relationships with the Lansing School District, Mayor Schor also celebrates many other accomplishments, including securing a contract with the Michigan Department of Corrections to offer job-training programs for offenders, working with Health Director Linda Vail to bring needed resources during COVID to establish testing centers and vaccination clinics, partnering with nonprofits to create exciting parks and help the Neighborhoods of Focus program, and many others.

The Regionalism and City Partnerships vision was the final installment of Mayor Schor’s vision for the next four years of Lansing.  The various sections of this plan are an ongoing project, and will continue to be updated as residents and partners share their concerns. Your input has helped shape these priorities, and will continue to be a key part of governing for Mayor Schor in the future.
