Mayor Schor Releases Economic and Community Development Vision for the Next Four Years in Lansing
LANSING – Today, Mayor Andy Schor released his Economic and Community Development vision for the City of Lansing, the third section within the Mayor’s overall vision for the next four years.
The plan details several successes during Schor’s tenure thus far - finalizing the Red Cedar Renaissance project, creating the Universal Development Agreement to support Lansing labor workers, increasing arts funding, offering grants to small businesses during the pandemic, and more. Moving forward, the Mayor hopes to extend corridor improvement to Cedar, Pennsylvania, Larch, and Waverly, repurpose the Eckert plant on the river, and lead the city out of the pandemic.
“Investing in our economy and our community has never been more important,” Mayor Schor stated. “Our work has saved small businesses, secured more job opportunities, and increased overall investment in our city. We will continue to build, rehabilitate, and redevelop equitably for the next four years, while investing in our communities that make Lansing the great city it is today.”
"As the owner of Center of the Plate, I've been grateful for the Mayor's efforts to support local businesses throughout the pandemic,” Rachelle White said. “Grant money has helped businesses like mine continue to provide for Lansing residents and visitors alike. I'm excited for the Mayor's vision to support businesses and invest in neighborhoods like Southwest Lansing and the city as a whole."
Additional highlights from the Economic and Community Development document include increasing facade projects, bringing the first new hotel to Lansing in 30 years, creating acclaimed opportunity zones, improving parking in commercial areas, and much more.
The Economic and Community Development vision is part of Mayor Schor’s comprehensive plan for the next four years for Lansing. He has already released his Neighborhood and City Services & Infrastructure vision. Other vision documents to come include Equity and Regionalism and City Partnerships. This comprehensive plan expands upon the accomplishments and work already done during his first term and will grow all parts of Lansing.
