UFCW Local 951 & Laborers Local 499 Endorse Schor for Mayor
LANSING - Mayor Andy Schor ends his labor week with the announcement of two key unions; the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 951 , and the Laborers Local 499. UFCW Local 951 provides critical representation to food, retail, and other workers in the Greater Lansing area. The Laborers Local 499 provides crucial representation for Michigan construction workers.
“The mission of UFCW Local 951 is to improve the quality of life for our more than 29,000 members across Michigan. We’re proud to endorse Mayor Andy Schor because he shares the same goal of improving the lives of Lansing residents, and we look forward to another term of positive cooperation with city leadership,” said John Cakmakci, president of UFCW Local 951.
“Laborers Local 499 has a long history of engaging with elected leaders and advocating for policies that benefit Michigan laborers. With promises to update Lansing’s energy infrastructure, fix broken roads, and support our union members, we know Mayor Schor is the right person for Lansing,” said Dan Minton, Business Manager for Laborers Local 499.
Schor responded, “I’ve been proud to work with UFCW 951 and Laborers 499 members alike, who are integral to our city. I have worked consistently with Labor throughout my tenure as Mayor, ensuring that as Lansing develops, our Labor community thrives. I look forward to another four years working with UFCW 951 and Laborers Local 499, and greatly appreciate their service to our city and residents.”
Mayor Schor has steadily released several key endorsements since announcing his candidacy for reelection in early March, including Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Former Mayor Tony Benavides, local small business owner Gregory Eaton, IBEW 352, UA Local 333, IBEW 665, and the Carpenters & Millwrights.
