LANSING – Mayor Andy Schor announced today the endorsement of Dale Schrader, President of the Walnut Neighborhood Organization, in his reelection campaign.
“I support Andy Schor for Mayor because our historic Walnut Neighborhood has benefitted during Andy's first term,” Dale started. “We have had several neighborhood-wide cleanups, a mobile farmer's market, and have received grants to set up several Little Free Libraries here. Walnut has been host to two Walking Wednesday events.”
Dale went on to discuss the new Community Garden, the tree-planting campaign with BWL and the city, and their participation in the Neighborhoods in Bloom program. Parks remain a priority as they anticipate a cleanup of Butchard Park West this month.
Further, Dale stated, “the Code Compliance and rental inspection process has improved under Andy's watch. We had implemented a Community Police Officer and a Police Substation for Walnut Park Apartments that was making progress with challenges in the neighborhood. I look forward to continued progress with Andy for the next four years.”
“It is an honor to receive this endorsement from such a great city advocate and neighborhood leader, Dale Schrader. The Walnut Neighborhood has been a focus of work between the City and the Walnut Neighborhood Association, and I am excited for the growth and vibrancy of this neighborhood. There is much more to come in the Walnut neighborhood as well as in the adjacent neighborhoods in northwest Lansing, especially working with leaders like Dale Schrader.
Strong neighborhoods have been a priority for Mayor Schor in his first term. He created a Department of Neighborhoods and Citizen Engagement (DNCE) to strengthen neighborhoods while fostering citizen engagement. The effort has resulted in neighborhood summits, a citizens academy, significant investment in parks, and many other amenities and services for neighbors to enjoy. Neighborhoods are one of the five planks of Mayor Schor’s Vision for Lansing plan, and working with neighborhood leaders is an important way to coordinate and continue to improve neighborhoods. In addition to neighborhood leaders, Schor has announced endorsements and support from small business leaders, labor organizations, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, US Senator Gary Peters, and several others. More information on Andy Schor’s campaign for Mayor can be found at www.andyschor.com.
