LANSING – Today, Mayor Andy Schor announced the endorsement of Mike Redding, a Lansing resident since 1983, in his campaign for reelection. As President of the Churchill Downs Community Association, Redding represents the 850 household community located in Southwest Lansing, and is a strong community leader.
“The residents of Lansing will have many ample opportunities in the next few months to research the goals and objectives of the various candidates for the upcoming Mayoral elections,” Redding said. “As a citizen, I ask that the community use various sources to study all the issues, not just the easy ones, and how they affect you and your neighbors. Andy Schor has shown great concern for the residents of the community, and a willingness to listen to our concerns is commendable. I intend to support Andy Schor and his campaign.”
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of Mike Redding, a longtime leader and neighborhood activist in southwest Lansing,” Schor said. “Mike is very passionate about our shared goal of improving our community’s safety, walkability, and beauty. I am excited for all that we can do together to help further shape southwest Lansing and all of Lansing into the best city it can possibly be!”
Schor and Redding worked together for many neighborhood improvements in the Churchill Downs neighborhood. The Schor Administration has done cleanups and walking tours, and supported the Churchill Downs neighborhood with grants through the Neighborhood Advisory Board. Partnerships with Redding and other Churchill Downs leaders will continue during Schor’s next term.
Strong neighborhoods have been a priority for Mayor Schor in his first term, with the creation of a Department of Neighborhoods and Citizen Engagement (DNCE) to strengthen neighborhoods while fostering citizen engagement. The effort has resulted in neighborhood summits, a citizens academy, significant investment in parks, and many other amenities and services for neighbors to enjoy. Neighborhoods are one of the five planks of Mayor Schor’s Vision for Lansing plan, and working with neighborhood leaders is an important way to coordinate and continue to improve neighborhoods. In addition to neighborhood leaders, Schor has announced endorsements and support from small business leaders, labor organizations, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and US Senator Gary Peters. Additionally, Schor has been endorsed by prominent community members like Dale Schrader and Patty Farhat, who are both leaders in our Lansing community.
